LOWELL — Marcelle “Marci” Thibault’s intentionally fatal trek across Interstate 495 while carrying her niece and nephew wasn’t her first trouble on the busy highway on the night of Jan. 11.

The Bellingham woman had a minor car accident on the same highway a little more than two hours before the 9:10 incident, which the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office ruled a week ago was a double-murder-suicide.

Thibault was driving northbound in a 2003 four-door Lincoln when she brushed the guardrail on the left side of the highway just north of Exit 40 in Andover at about 6:50 p.m., said state police Capt. Barry O’Brien.

A good Samaritan who stopped to offer help before police arrived said Thibault appeared agitated immediately after the accident, but by the time three troopers arrived she was relaxed, O’Brien said.
